Is more than just music, its a brand

Being a lover of music, I like to take notice of the bigger picture, i.e. the different components a musician has to create his or hers overall image.

Luckily growing up in a environment influenced by talented musicians making the transition from underground music, to popular culture (POP MUSIC) I am able to see first hand how a an artist is developed. It’s the same in other genres with established artists, but focusing on UK artists in particular. I am pretty amazed at how the typeface has the biggest influence to n artist recognition.

I can across this topic when, I noticed the name artist not by reading their name, but by recognizing the font used they used, it has became so consistent that its extremely reliable in connection to an artist.

In my opinion it has help establish them in their own right and helps them make the transition from music artist to a brand.

(Which in this sense all artists is extremely marketable.
Here's some examples.)

Statistists showing the current listen rate is 6million people oin London, it will instantly go to 26million nationa wide when the switch over is made!

Bad Start To A Christmas Campiagn From John Lewis

John Lewis hit with complaints, for a 60 sec Christmas Ad, because near to the end there is a dog shown in a kennel outside while it is snowing and the family inside in the warmth, over 140 people so far have complained forcing them to cut the Ad to 30 seconds, and getting rid of this scene, which many considered as animal cruelty.

Check out the video & article Below.

Well I guess sex sells ?

It seems when a company is in doubt, they almost always, go back to selling their product with sexual connotations attached to their Ads.

This is no different when I wacth, one of the most explicit commercial AD’s I ever seen, which was simply trying to entise Spanish voters into making sure the vote. The government who pushed for the Advert to be produced, sold voting as a ‘sexual’ and ‘fufilling’ experience.

In a bid to go one step futher different political parties are going to porn stars and directors for advert to add consictancy to their campaign.

the whole advert may appeal in some sence to a younger audienece, but can voting in politics ever be sexy? And also how was this ever broadcasted? I couldn’t even imagen that being ran with by the Labour party!

Take a look.

Influential Trending

So a couple of weeks ago, I spoke about Trends being incorporated into social networking such as “Twitter”.

Buts it seems to be bigger than I thought. Thanks to the size and dominant networks such as twitter, Facebook and of course YouTube.

Companies are using them as a key point of advertising, with options to promote a trend on twitter, are but very affective, and seem to get a whole region is not the national talking about this specific product.

(Example from www.twitter.com of trending words in the uk)

As well as this now billion pound network site face book has regular adverts from a vast amount of companies, the adverts usually appear on your screen as a result to what groups and actives you “like”.

(Example taken from www.facebook.com )

Lastly YouTube’s trending section is quite new which enables you to see what videos are trending around the world to get an overview of what people are taking an interest to. As well as this, companies are beginning to take a very keen interest in advertising, with many adverts pinpointing specific videos to advertise their product.
