This topic is one close to my heart, and is absolutely amazing; addidas and Sony have managed to keep up in the changing market to appeal an audience directly in a suttle way showing us what we want to see.
How ? I bet your wondering, well previously I wrote a blog about a 19 year old Londoner by the name of Jamal Edwards who turn a HD camera given to him at Christmas into a tool to become a the leader in online broadcasting today, by recording top UK artists and artists trying to make in the “Urban” genre and giving them a chance to broadcast their talent over the world via YouTube, having over 20million views on his YouTube account, Jamal has become a well known name in the US and Canada as well as the UK underground scene.
Comapnies are looking to SBTV because they represent tthe Urban Scene, instead of researching how to appeal, to the Market. right now SBTV is controlling the music market in a Urban music sense.
Top sports company addidas have been watching closely to what Jamal has accomplished over the last two years and decided to run an campaign called “ we are London “ which a few short episodes all done by Jamal’s media company SBTV that show well known top underground artists and their rise to mainstream fame, and where they have been brought up. This is such a cleaver thing Addidas have done, as the people they are targeting with this campaign would only really know who the artist being shown in the video, in addition there was large product placement in which the artist are shown putting on addidas and walking the streets. This wasn’t a small campaign either many of the artist appearing in the videos are currently on the side of London busses on and all over London billboards.
what I like as well as giving usually “unheard from” in the mainstream a chance to speak. Is opportunity big companies have now given for the youth from urban backgrounds to get involved with different companies, for this I give them 10/10
Here is one of the videos from the “We Are London” Campaign.
Which shows London Urban Artist ‘Devlin’ who a recent signed a Major record deal, and where he grew up and what are the components that shaped him as the successful 21 year old he is today.
This is another “we are London” campaign video from Urban Unsigned artist ‘Bashy’ a former bus driver who recent just came off a world wide music Tour as a support at to band 'The Gorrilaz'.
In addition to this amazing new campaign strategy, from Addidas. Now Sony looking to SBTV to promote new products, in a quite amazing way, look for yourself....

Product placement on British television in 2011
Reading an article in campaign magazine, I came across the breaking news that TV regulators Ofcom, will be relaxing their rules on product placement within UK television. This is massive news, and can change the way the advertising take place.
In America product placement is practiced all the time, and the most influential type I have seen was in pop idol and there multi million dollar with coca cola, where in frequent times in the show Simon Cowell would take long drink from a coke glass and then smile as to show he is refreshed. It is a little cheesy but, simple product placement like this can be very influential and can boost a company’s profits.
Other types of product placement can be found in films, and music videos. It quite amazes me how sometimes it is done so toned down to entice the consumer without them relising.
Campaign Magazine said “ Media agencies suggest product placement could make up around 5% of all TV spend within the next five years, and generate as much as £200m a year. TV sponsorship deals are currently worth around £200m, according to television body Thinkbox.
Broadcasters have already started to discuss product placement with media agencies. One TV trader said ITV was trying to take a "leadership position" in the genre as it seeks to diversify revenues.
A revitalized Channel 4 under David Abraham is also exploring possibilities product placement will offer their current clients”.
Here is an amazing example of loads product placement in a music video from a internationally known POP music artist “Lady Gaga” in her hit single “Telephone” ( This particular video has 95 Million YouTube views )
1:25 Dr. Dre Beats headphones
2:05 / 4:15 mins – New Virgin Media mobile phone
2:14 mins – Diet Coke
4:20 mins – Dr. Dre beats/Hp laptop

Is more than just music, its a brand
Being a lover of music, I like to take notice of the bigger picture, i.e. the different components a musician has to create his or hers overall image.
Luckily growing up in a environment influenced by talented musicians making the transition from underground music, to popular culture (POP MUSIC) I am able to see first hand how a an artist is developed. It’s the same in other genres with established artists, but focusing on UK artists in particular. I am pretty amazed at how the typeface has the biggest influence to n artist recognition.
I can across this topic when, I noticed the name artist not by reading their name, but by recognizing the font used they used, it has became so consistent that its extremely reliable in connection to an artist.
In my opinion it has help establish them in their own right and helps them make the transition from music artist to a brand.
(Which in this sense all artists is extremely marketable.
Here's some examples.)
Tinie Tempah
2 UK number 1's and a number 1 album in 2010 and his consistant typeface

"Boy better Know"
A Urban London music group that have had major success in branding thier T shirts,
with ther group logo, and selling them with thier music. the brand now worth over £1 Million pounds.

Tinchy Stryder
One of the uk's most successful artists only 2 and has
5 UK number 1's

Roll Deep
Another London music group that has had 2 number ones alone just this year.

Radio has always played a key role in our society and has developed over the genratations.
My love for this media medium was boosted immensely when getting a job at one of Europe’s biggest commercial radio networks, Global radio.
already having a huge name Global Radio with stations such as GalaxyFM are no longer messing around, in 2011 London’s Captital radio with be spread nation wide to in a bid to become even bigger than Radio 1. Statistists showing the current listen rate is 6million people oin London, it will instantly go to 26million nationa wide when the switch over is made!
to understand it more wacth this.

Bad Start To A Christmas Campiagn From John Lewis
John Lewis hit with complaints, for a 60 sec Christmas Ad, because near to the end there is a dog shown in a kennel outside while it is snowing and the family inside in the warmth, over 140 people so far have complained forcing them to cut the Ad to 30 seconds, and getting rid of this scene, which many considered as animal cruelty.
Check out the video & article Below.

Well I guess sex sells ?
It seems when a company is in doubt, they almost always, go back to selling their product with sexual connotations attached to their Ads.
This is no different when I wacth, one of the most explicit commercial AD’s I ever seen, which was simply trying to entise Spanish voters into making sure the vote. The government who pushed for the Advert to be produced, sold voting as a ‘sexual’ and ‘fufilling’ experience.
In a bid to go one step futher different political parties are going to porn stars and directors for advert to add consictancy to their campaign.
the whole advert may appeal in some sence to a younger audienece, but can voting in politics ever be sexy? And also how was this ever broadcasted? I couldn’t even imagen that being ran with by the Labour party!
Take a look.

Influential Trending
So a couple of weeks ago, I spoke about Trends being incorporated into social networking such as “Twitter”.
Buts it seems to be bigger than I thought. Thanks to the size and dominant networks such as twitter, Facebook and of course YouTube.
Companies are using them as a key point of advertising, with options to promote a trend on twitter, are but very affective, and seem to get a whole region is not the national talking about this specific product.
(Example from www.twitter.com of trending words in the uk)

As well as this now billion pound network site face book has regular adverts from a vast amount of companies, the adverts usually appear on your screen as a result to what groups and actives you “like”.
(Example taken from www.facebook.com )

Lastly YouTube’s trending section is quite new which enables you to see what videos are trending around the world to get an overview of what people are taking an interest to. As well as this, companies are beginning to take a very keen interest in advertising, with many adverts pinpointing specific videos to advertise their product.

Overnight superstars.
Most of the Uk’s population would love to be a superstar, and that’s to reality TV programmes this has got a lot easier over the years. The tradition of being on a show presetng your self talent to the nationa, in suchs such as “britians got talent” and “ Xfactor” has long gone, and even now from your first autition you can become an overnight celbrity.
Cher Lloyd for instants is a key example of this. In the last seires of the Xfactor she had one of the most famous auditions throught the 8 years of the show, when she sang her hiphop rendition of “ turn my swag on “. The cover was so good she was contacted by the offcial singer and songwriters of the song and was broadcasted all over the world with an amazing 8.4 million views and accounting.
Has reality TV gotten to powerful and is it a good the era is coming to an end?

Trend by Trend
So this is week three of my blog post, and I’ve decided to focus again on another trend topic which affects me in a major way while social networking!
Joining twitter this year I’ve found it useful to gain many contacts on a networking side of things, but it also opens you up to a world of social thinking and what people really think.
In particular, on every persons Twitter home page there is a *TT box this standing for Twitter Trend keeps you up to date with trends are current, and depending on the social impact they can change within days, hours, or even weeks.
This can vary from what program has just came on TV, to what viral inter link has just spread round, as long as it impacts the majority while talk about in, and give you a chance not for you to be left out either.
For example the “Yeo Valley” advertisment which premiered on prime time TV in between the X factor break. The advert involved rapping farmers decribing how great their milk is.

The UK Music Industry Has To Step Up Its 'Game' Thanks to 'SB'

www.youtube.com/smokeybarz
www.sbtv.co.uk
The Music Industry playing a big part in my life, there has been noticeable drastic changes in the way the music system has had to work to reach an audience that still appreciates the music, I could talk to hours about this topic but here is the quick over view!
Jamal Edwards also known as ‘SB’, is not your ordinary 19 year old boy from London, it all started at the age of 16 he had a keen interest for filming & music. He saw a slight gap in the market and combined this together with a camera given to him by his mum for Christmas, and set up a YouTube account to help establish his own media company “SB.TV” which is now today in its own right the UK’s Number 1 online broadcasting youth lifestyle channel. With over 20 million views, and now averaging 1 million views a month.
The channel with caters for urban youths like myself which plays a variety of “Grime” & “R’n’B” and gives viewer the chance to get closer to an artist, experience their rise to global recognition for example “Tinie Tempah, Tinchy Stryder & Chipmunk”. This has kind of pushed the need of the mainstream further away from the target audience they ever so want to reach.
This has become a favourite with global artists as well as music fans, with people across from America such as former Destiny’s child member “Kelly Rowland” doing an interview and others like “Drake, Trey Songz, RedOne” and many more. This simple hobby with took the UK by storm by an YouTube account, and has changed the way in which music labels think. Instead of creating an artist, for the public they have been forced to find artist’s that have generated their publicity because people just don’t want to see the same old generic “top 10 music” anymore. As well as this, advert companies have realises if they still want to reach their audience getting of “SB.TV” is a must! So their is many instances where, companies now pay to get their adverts played before one of “SB’s”
videos, in a TV type situation... and this is only the start!
A Product Branded by 'SB' "A64" which is a current big hit giving the chance for artist to do Acoustic covers.
Im a big fan of London Artist Devlin, But The Last Time I Checked.. "The Sun" was a newspaper.. Now they are bringing out similar Videos. Underground Music/Videos Trending?, I think so.

Hey,
so this is my blog, for out Trends & Visual thinking class, and will be updating this every week.. Maybe sometimes more than once!
I hope you enjoy having a read, and who knows you might learn something about me and my thoughts too!
Ben x
So this is a brand new single out artist Bruno Mars entitled “Just The Way You Are”. Which I got from YouTube “Video Central”, with YouTube around today, the importance for TV is less and therefore enabling me to check out what ever videos and music I like!. Apart from me enjoying the music, I chose this video in particular because it differentiates, to typical music videos and is more articulate, creative and overall visually attractive, then others I have seen.
Being a music video director myself in my spare time, the codes and conventions in this video appeal to me on another level, and are a lot better than the usual multi shots all in ‘sync’ to one song. This video plays on images being made out of a reel of tape, in an “art attack” style video, speeded up to match a very soothing flow with the music, which is very entertaining to watch while you listen.
As well as the images matching the flow & rhythm of the music, the video in my eyes matches the conventional stereotypical codes to meet a target audience of females, by the way in which the final video is presented.so this is my blog, for out Trends & Visual thinking class, and will be updating this every week.. Maybe sometimes more than once!
